Adopting an animal from the shelter

Are you considering adopting a cat or a dog?I encourage you of going to your local shelter, there is a lot of animals in need of a loving home.
Prior of adoption you need to evaluate your needs, are you looking for a active pet, will you have time to spend with your pet.If your life's circumstances changes can you still take care of your pet?
I consider my pets just like my kids, my life changed and I made sure I could take care of my pets as much as my kids.

At First, I thought of adopting from the classified adds would save an animal from going to the shelter.I did not realised how full the shelter was.

We went a Friday long week-end to the local shelter and ending up falling in love with Emalee.

We adopted Emilie, a Blue Heeler from the local Spca.
You need to know that the SPCA does not have a veterinian on site, it is non-profit organisation.
They are not able to confirm breed and the animal's age.
They guessed that Emilie was a beagle, and 3 years old.Our vet told us that she is a Blue Heeler Cross and approximatively 7-8 years old.
Being a Blue heeler her grey and white around her nose makes her look older. But since her molars has been pulled, her vet things she is in the 7 years old range...
It's good that I did not know that she is older than 3, or I would had missed the chance to have the best companion that she is.The first week that we adopted her, I had to hand feed her.She was so scrared of everything.
She spent over 7 weeks in the shelter and was found outside  in med January as a stray.
We don't know anything about her except that we are guessing that  she was abused by a tall man with dark skin and a big truck. She goes crazy when she see a tall man with a diesel truck.
She is very protective and loves our kids. She loves other dogs and even cats.

The SPCA fee range between 150,00 and 500,00 depending of the breed and age of the animal.
It includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations updated but not rabbies shots, a bag of food,a complimentary vet appointment within 10 days of adoption, tracking Chip and 60 days Pet co insurance.

For those who live in Alberta I suggest to look up on Face book Bandages Paws shelter, it is another no kill shelter running as a non-profit organization.
